Sarfraz Nawaz appreciates Pak’s ‘morale-boosting’ win against New Zealand
January 30th, 2011 - 4:08 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Jan 30(ANI): Former Pakistan cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz has appreciated the national team’s win against New Zealand in the third one-dayer.
Pakistan levelled the one-day series against the Kiwis following a 43-run victory at Lancaster Park on Saturday.
“It has boosted the morale of the national team and would affect the performance of entire team,” the Daily Times quoted Nawaz, as telling a TV channel.
He said the entire team performed well in the match, especially Mohammad Hafeez, who scored his first one-day century, and skipper Shahid Afridi, who blasted the equal-fastest half century.
The six-match series is now locked at 1-1 after New Zealand won the first match in Wellington by nine wickets last week and the second in Queenstown was washed out on Wednesday.
Nawaz expressed hope that Pakistan would play in the same spirit in the next match as well as the forthcoming World Cup.
To a question, he said there was a need of further improvement in all disciplines, including batting, bowling and fielding.
Nawaz noted that the physical condition of some of the players was not good, and suggested them to work hard to ensure they are fit for the World Cup, which begins on February 19. (ANI)
