Santosh Trophy: Punjab play Services ThursdayJune 3rd, 2008 - 10:37 pm ICT by IANS
Srinagar, June 3 (IANS) Defending champions Punjab will begin their quarterfinal league campaign in the 62nd Santosh Trophy football tournament being played here with a match Thursday against Services. Punjab, along with hosts Jammu and Kashmir, last year’s losing semifinalist Kerala and Services have been placed in Group A for the quarterfinal league.
Bengal, last year’s runners-up Maharashtra, last year’s semi-finalist Karnataka and Goa have been placed in Group B, All India Football Federation (AIFF) competition director Anil Kamat said at a press conference here.
Kerala will clash with the hosts Friday while West Bengal take on Goa and Maharashtra clash with Karnataka the same day.
There will be two matches Saturday with the hosts playing against Punjab and Services taking on Kerala.
Karnataka will clash with West Bengal on Sunday, while Goa will take on Maharashtra the same day.
The hosts will play against the Services and Kerala will take on Punjab on June 9.
Goa will take on Karnataka and West Bengal will play Maharashtra on June 10.
The semi-finals will be played at the Bakshi Stadium here on June 12-13 and the finals on June 15.
