Sanjay Jagdale to be BCCI secretary, Ajay Shirkey treasurer
September 18th, 2011 - 7:55 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Sep 18 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh’s Sanjay Jagdale will take over as secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the 82nd Annual General Meeting here Monday.
Jagdale, who has been the BCCIs joint-secretary, will succeed Narayanswamy Srinivasan, the president-elect who takes over from Shashank Manohar.
Jagdale’s was the only nomination for secretary’s post, though Orissa Cricket Association president Ranjib Biswal was keen on becoming the secretary. Apparently, some of the units in the East opposed his candidature.
Anurag Thakur, BJP member of parliament, will be the new joint secretary while Pune-based industrialist Ajay Shirke has been named the treasurer to take over from M.P. Pandove, who is the secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association.
The BCCI announced the nominations for the top posts Sunday afternoon. Since all the nominations are unopposed, they will all be elected unanimously Monday.
The AGM is expected to name union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla as the new chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in place of Baroda industrialist Chirayu Amin, who has expressed his inability to continue.
Amin took over as IPL chairman after fellow-industrialist Lalit Modi was sacked as chairman and commissioner following his differences with the senior BCCI officials over the way the IPL was run.
The national selection committee will also undergo minor changes. With Srinivasan firm on retaining Krishnamachari Srikkanth as selectors’ chairman, the changes in the panel will only be from the north and west zones.
North’s Yashpal Sharma completed his term and is likely to be replaced by former India opener Vikram Rathore from Punjab, though Delhi is pushing for another former India player Sanjeev Sharma.
There appears to be some opposition to the continuation of Maharashtra’s Surendra Bhave from Mumbai, which wants one of its former cricketers to come in.
Initially, there was also opposition to East’s Raja Venkat, but he might be allowed to complete his term and so will Central’s Narendra Hirwani.

Treasurer - Ajay Shirke
