Sania slips three spots to 32February 18th, 2008 - 4:13 pm ICT by admin
New Delhi, Feb 18 (IANS) Sania Mirza’s recent injury lay-off has cost her three places in the Women Tennis Association (WTA) rankings as she dropped to the 32nd position in the rankings released Monday. The 21-year-old Hyderabadi player, who returns to the court at the Qatar Total Open, however, managed to hold on to her doubles position at 23.
Sania, who made a third round appearance at the Australian Open, losing to American Venus Williams, slumped in the singles ranking as she missed out the Pattaya Open earlier this month because of a back injury.
US-based Sunitha Rao maintained her singles ranking at 182 but dropped in doubles to 126th spot.
In the men’s section, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi held on to their top-20 positions in the Association of Tennis Professional (ATP) doubles ranking at 15 and 19 spots respectively. Rohan Bopanna climbed up two spots to 54 in doubles.
