Sania-Monica stun Wimbledon doubles champions
August 12th, 2010 - 8:11 pm ICT by IANSCincinnati, Aug 12 (IANS) India’s Sania Mirza and Monica Niculescu of Romania scored a shock 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 victory over Wimbledon champions and fifth seeds Vania King of the US and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan to storm into the doubles quarterfinals of the Western and Southern Financial Group Women’s Open tennis here.
The unseeded pair of Sania and Monica had defeated American wildcards Jamie Hampton and Melanie Oudin in a tough first round and are now up against the winners of the match between Victoria Azarenka of Belarus and Russian Maria Kirilenko and Kveta Peschke of Czech Republic and Katarina Srebotnik of Slovakia.
Sania lost to Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia in the first round of singles qualifiers.
