Sania makes rapid strides on WTA charts

New Delhi, Sep 20 (IANS) India’s Sania Mirza made rapid strides in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings released Monday, gaining 15 places to 129th place in the singles and 20 places to 67th place in the doubles.
Sania had a good stint in Guangzhou International Women’s Open in China last week , where she clinched the doubles title with Romania’s Edina Gallovits and reached the quarterfinals in the singles.
On the contrary, India’s No.1 men player Somdev Devvarman has slipped four places to 117. Rohan Bopanna has moved up six places to 473rd position.
In the men’s doubles, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi are static at ninth and 13th positions, respectively.
