Mohali, March 28 (IANS) Kings XI Punjab skipper Kumar Sangakkara has been banned from their next match against Mumbai Indians because of the team’s repeated failure to maintain the over-rate in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Kings XI Punjab were one over behind the required over-rate after allowances were taken into consideration in Saturday’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders, IPL said in a statement Sunday.
“It was Kings XI Punjab’s third offence of the season, and under the IPL’s code of conduct related to minimum over-rate offences, captain Kumar Sangakkara was fined $50,000 and each player in the team $20,000.
“Sangakkara is banned from playing in the team’s next match, a clash against Mumbai Indians March 30.”
Kings XI Punjab slumped to their fifth defeat last night when they went down to Knight Riders by 39 runs. They are the bottom-placed team with only one win in six matches.
