ryanSan Diego, Sep 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It is only the second week of the National Football League season and already reports of players moving out of field due to injury has started trickling in. On Sunday, the San Diego Chargers and Jacksonville Jaguars took a bad turn when rookie running back Ryan Mathews sprained his right ankle during the first quarter of the game. Although the team went on for a 38-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Ryan Mathews was escorted out of the field in very first quarter of the game. Ryan Mathews did not return for the rest of the game.

Ryan Mathews was seen wreathing in pain at the end of a three-yard run. The accident occurred when Jacksonville Jaguars’ linebacker Kirk Morrison landed straight on Ryan Mathews’ legs when he was being tackled. Paramedics and physicians present in the field rushed to his help and few minutes later he was escorted out. He was examined once again on the bench and then taken to the locker-room on a cart. Although the seriousness of the injury is not known clearly, Ryan Mathews was seen jogging his way back to the bench outside field during the second quarter of the game.

The rookie running back Ryan Mathews said to media sources later on that he could have continued with the game, but the team management wanted it otherwise and preferred to provide him some rest. Coach Norv Turner declined to comment on whether Ryan Mathews could have or could not have returned to the field for play but held that he was not comfortable with the idea of having him return. He added that he did not want to turn a one week injury to a six-week injury.
