Samantha Stosur Beats Elena Dementieva, Registers Place In U.S. Open Quarter-Final

srtotNew York, Sep 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Australian tennis player Samantha Stosur reserved a dazzling three-set victory over Elena Dementieva in the fourth round of the U.S. Open. With the victory, the No.6 rank player bagged a spot for herself at the quarter finals of this year’s U.S Open tournament. The 26-year-old player was successful in overpowering her Russian opponent with 6-3 2-6 7-6 (7-2) after she was able to survive four match points.

Her victory at the showdown against Elena Dementieva must have surely been special for the Australian tennis star as this is the very first time that Samantha Stosur has come this far in the tournament in the singles round as now she would be seen competing in the quarter-finals of U.S. Open. In order to proceed any further in the prestigious tournament, the 26-year-old tennis star would have to beat defending champion Kim Clijsters in the quarter-final match. The factor which made many believe that Samantha Stosur was here to give a tough fight to her opponent was the sheer determination and focus that the Australian player showcased throughout the game even at points when things failed to go in her favor. The 26-year-old seized every opportunity as she went aggressively after each shot to ascertain her dominance in the match.

While reacting to her victory, Samantha Stosur later told the reporters that she just went for it and gave her best shot which ultimately paid off. At the same time, the Australian tennis star also acknowledged that both the players had to deal with a lot of pressure but added that the atmosphere of the stadium was extraordinary amazing with the crowds cheering boisterously.
