New Delhi, Oct 7 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh today promised legal help to those arrested by the Delhi Police in the Jamia Nagar encounter, three days after he demanded a judicial probe into the encounter that left two alleged terrorists and Inspector M C Sharma dead.

While addressing reporters here today, Singh said, “Shoot them if they are terrorists. But if they are innocent, then they should be given justice.”

“If a judicial probe says they are innocent, then we can think of withdrawing support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government,” Singh added.

Singh further said that senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani has agreed to take up the case of the two students following his request.

While visiting Jamia Nagar on Saturday, Singh had also raised doubts about police version of the September 19 encounter.

On Monday, Sharmas family refused to accept a cheque of Rs 10 lakh offered to the family by Amar Singh, following his remarks.

Sharmas wife Maya said, It is against my self-respect to even react to such comments.

We are not asking them to come and sympathise with us, but they should at least respect my husbands sacrifice, she added.

In view of the criticism from Sharmas family, Amar Singh today tried to do some damage control, saying he was not questioning the martyrdom of the inspector.

On September 19, the Delhi Police Special Cell carried out the encounter at Jamia Nagar after getting a tip off from Ahmedabad blasts mastermind Mufti Abu Bhashir, who is presently in police custody.

Five bombs exploded in quick succession in crowded markets and busy streets in Delhi on September 13, killing 20 and injuring at least 90.

Jaipur, Ahmadabad, Bengaluru and recently Tripura were hit by serial blasts in recent months killing and injuring hundreds of people. (ANI)
