New Delhi , Nov 15 (IANS) The marathon fever will grip the city again when 30,000 children will participate in the 14th edition of Salwan Marathon here Sunday. The event to be held in Delhi Cantonment will have almost 700 visually impaired children from all over the country brave the chill on a 3km stretch. Each will be accompanied by a volunteer.
About 3,800 outstation students will be arriving here for the event.
The last few years have have seen record participation, with 2007 having as many as 46,000 students competing, the organisers decided to cut down the entries.
“We were overwhelmed by the response since last couple of year. But it became difficult to manage. So we have decided to restrict the entries,” said Inder Dutt, trustee of Salwan Education Trust.
“Salwan Marathon is all about generating interest at grassroot level. We want to promote Delhi as a sports city and spread the sporting culture,” he said.
Besides, there will be students in U-14, 16, 18 categories participating from all over the capital. While u-16 boys and girls will run 5 km, u-18 will cover 8 km.
