saintsNew Orleans, Jan 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The New Orleans Saints ensured their position in the Super Bowl by registering a stunning victory against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at the Louisiana Superdome. Sunday’s clash between the Saints and the Vikings turned out to be a huge treat for the Saints fans as the team defeated their opponents by the score of 31-28 during overtime.

New Orleans player Garrett Hartley delivered a 40-yard field goal with just few moments left in the overtime, which resulted in his team emerging as the ultimate winner during Sunday’s NFC Championship Game. However, the Vikings defeat turned out to be extremely disappointing for veteran quarterback Brett Favre, who had ended his second retirement to join the Minnesota Vikings in a bid to be part of another Super Bowl.

While reacting to the victory, coach Sean Payton dedicated the win to the residents of New Orleans which had witnessed immense devastation about four years ago due to Hurricane Katrina. At the same time, quarterback Drew Brees added that the victory was something that the team had been waiting for a long time although he acknowledged that the job was not done as yet.

Meanwhile, the victory was all the more special for the New Orleans Saints as this was the first time that they would get the opportunity to play in the Super Bowl. The Saints would be clashing against Indianapolis Colts in a much anticipated showdown which would be taking place on February 7 in Miami. The Colts registered a place for themselves in the Super Bowl by wining against the New York Jets earlier on Sunday.
