Saina moves to 15th in singles rankingsJuly 24th, 2008 - 7:14 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, July 24 (IANS) Saina Nehwal’s preparation for the Beijing Games received a shot in the arm as she moved up two places to career best 15th in the latest women’s singles rankings released by the International Badminton Federation (IBF) Thursday. Saina, who will participate in her first Olympics this August, broke into the top-20 earlier this month when she jumped three places to the 18th spot after her brilliant performance in the Asian circuit last month.
“I am very happy that my rankings is moving up as we are nearing Olympics. It will certainly give me confidence as I will be competing against the top shuttlers of the world,” Saina told IANS.
Saina became the first Indian women to reach the semi-final of a Super Series event at the Singapore Open. Saina then carried on her impressive form at the Thailand Open and reached the quarterfinal before being subdued by Chinese top-seed Xie Xingfang.
