Saina in quarterfinals of World Badminton championships
August 12th, 2011 - 12:20 am ICT by IANSLondon, Aug 11 (IANS) India’s Saina Nehwal moved into the quarterfinals of the World Badminton Championships after her opponent Pui Yin Yip of Hong Kong conceded the match here Thursday.
Sixth seeded Saina was leading 21-3, 13-5 when Yip retired 20 minutes into the third-round match.
The Indian will next face the winner of the match between China’s third seed Xin Wang and Bulgarian Petya Nedelcheva.
Saina has bowed out of the Worlds at the quarterfinal stage in the previous two editions.
In men’s singles, Ajay Jayram gave a scare to sixth seded Jin Chen of China before losing 21-18, 12-21, 11-21.
In mixed doubles, Jwala Gutta and V.Diju went own to Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen 9-21, 15-21.
