SAFF Cup: Chhetri scores twice, India beat Maldives 3-1
December 9th, 2011 - 6:54 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS) Sunil Chhetri scored two goals as defending champions India defeated the Maldives 3-1 to make it to the final of the SAFF Cup football tournament at the Nehru Stadium here Friday.
Syed Rahim Nabi scored the first goal before the Maldives equalised in the second half through Shamweel Qasim’s thundering strike.
Chhetri then slotted a penalty to give India the lead. He scored his sixth goal of the tournament after being beautifully set up by Jeje Lalpekhlua.
India will now play the winner of the second semi-final between Afghanistan and Nepal.
