Sacked nude teacher wins back teaching rightsJune 7th, 2008 - 5:24 pm ICT by ANI
Melbourne, June 7 (ANI): An Australian teacher sacked for posing nude for a magazine has won back her professional rights and would be provided with a new job by the NSW government.
Department of Education and Training spokeswoman Meredith Jones said that the department would find Lynne Tziolas a new job quickly, and she would remain on full pay.
However, Ms Jones said it would be unfair to reappoint her to Narraweena Public School on Sydney’s northern beaches, because of the division in the school over her photos in Cleo magazine last month.
The photo featured Tziolas, 24, and her husband of four years, Antonios, in a discreet embrace.
Tziolas was informed of the result by her lawyers, and said the department had been hypocritical.
Though she won back her teaching rights, Tziolas said her lawyers had told her that the department still regarded her magazine appearance as unprofessional.
“If they think I’ve done something wrong, why are they still sending me back to teaching?” she asked, saying she believed she was owed a formal apology, Daily Telegraph quoted her telling The Weekend Australian.
Asked by Cleo if they ever brought “toys” into the bedroom, Ms Tziolas said: “Yes, the usual stuff — dildos, clitoral stimulators, whips and cuffs.” Her favourite sexual position was “missionary, because I’m lazy”.
Tziolas also said that the department had made the conditional non-teaching offer through lawyers, but she had been determined get back her job.
She said she did not feel that “attempting to silence my thoughts and feelings is an adequate bargaining chip”.
Jones has denied that the department asked Tziolas not to speak to the media as a condition of any possible agreement.
But documents obtained by The Weekend Australian support Ms Tziolas’s claim.
Hundreds of students and parents petitioned demanding Tziolas to be reinstated.
“She has approval to work as a casual teacher but has been stood down pending investigation,” said Jones. (ANI)
