Russia to improve: Advocaat
June 3rd, 2012 - 9:02 pm ICT by IANSMoscow, June 3 (IANS/Ria Novosti) Russia’s football coach Dick Advocaat said Sunday his team is not getting carried away with the 3-0 trouncing of Italy Friday, and that there are areas for improvement.
Two goals from Roman Shirokov and one from Alexander Kerzhakov gave Russia the friendly win in Zurich, sending them to Euro 2012 on a wave of 14 games unbeaten.
“The game against Italy was a good result, a little bit flattered, we still have to improve some defensive parts,” the 64-year-old Dutchman said.
“But we’re going the right way,” he said in his last news conference in Moscow before the team flies to its Euro 2012 base in Warsaw.
Russia start their campaign against the Czech Republic on Friday, before further group stage games against Poland and Greece.
Advocaat is stepping down after the tournament to take over at PSV Eindhoven, and would not be drawn on his possible successor.
