Rudd warns about terror attacks during Delhi CWG

Melbourne, Sep 23 (ANI): Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd has warned of a high terror threat in India during the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.
Speaking in New York, Rudd said a formal government warning about travel to the Games’ host city was stark in its language and may be revised in the coming days.
“The travel advisory the government has issued speaks for itself. It has warned consistently in India of the risk of terrorist attack,” The Courier Mail quoted Rudd, as saying.
He said: “The DFAT advisory says there is a high risk of a terrorist attack in New Delhi. It is very explicit about that. Individuals will need to make their own judgments based on it.”
His warning came as Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced more Australian officials will travel to New Delhi ahead of the Games.
Gillard said that while security at the Games was the Indian Government’s responsibility, Australian officials would be present.
“We have also boosted the number of officials we have in New Delhi and we have others on standby,” she told reporters in Canberra on Thursday.
With the Australian Government expecting more athletes to pull out of the Commonwealth Games, about 15 Australian Federal Police officers will provide a high-level security cordon, though unarmed, after Sunday’s shooting incident near the Jama Masjid in the walled city of Delhi. (ANI)
