Rs.10 lakh Kanshi Ram sports award for Raina, Chawla
April 4th, 2011 - 2:19 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, April 4 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has honoured two Indian cricketers from the state, Suresh Raina and Piyush Chawla, with the Kanshi Ram International Sports Award which carries a cash prize of Rs.10 lakh.
“Raina and Chawla, who hail from Uttar Pradesh, have been named for the award for their commendable role in taking India to the World Cup victory,” said a release issued here Monday.
In a message sent to the two players, Mayawati has said: “You have done UP (Uttar Pradesh) proud.”
Instituted in September 2010, the award has so far been conferred on sportspersons who brought laurels to the nation at last year’s Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, and the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
