Rs. 14.40 crore spent on shooters’ Olympics preparations

Abhinav Bindra New Delhi, Feb 1 (IANS) The union sports ministry has so far spent Rs.14.40 crore on the training and foreign exposure of shooters under Operation Excellence for London Olympics 2012 (OPEX 2012).

Of this, Rs.2.90 crore was spent on national coaching camps organised for training 91 shooters (59 men and 32 women), who are being guided by 19 coaches (including 3 foreign coaches) and five supporting personnel (including one foreign gunsmith). The remaining Rs.11.50 crore was utilised for foreign exposure of players.

Till now, eight coaching camps of a duration of 124 days have been organised, according to a sports ministry release Wednesday.

Eleven shooters — Gagan Narang, Hari Om Singh, Sanjeev Rajput, Ranjan Sodhi, Annuraj Singh, Rahi Sarnobat, Vijay Kumar, Abhinav Bindra, Shagun Chowdhary, Manavjit Singh Sandhu and Imran Hasan Khan — have earned quota places for the London Games.
