Rotterdam Gears Up For Tour De France

raceRotterdam, Netherlands, July 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) As the 97th edition of the Tour De France begins it journey across Rotterdam on Saturday, the enthusiasm among the millions of fans gathered at the venue would be skyrocketing.

Anticipation among the people regarding this year’s version of Tour De France is all the more high as it would be the last time Lance Armstrong, the seven time winner of the race would be participating in it. Apart from lance Armstrong, another favorite in this year’s race which would run till July 25, is Team Astana rider Alberto Contador who is the defending champion from Spain.

Rotterdam officials has revealed that millions of enthusiastic fans are expected to line the route of the prestigious race on Saturday as the Tour De France begins. The race which would reaching its final conclusion at the Champs-Elysees in Paris on July 25 would run across Belgium and France, apart from Netherlands in which just like every previous year, large number of talented cyclist would be participating. The opening stage of the race being held abroad has become a regular factor in the tour in the recent years, with London which was selected for the opening part of the race in 2007.

Meanwhile, the Tour De France has been grabbing limelight this year after Lance Armstrong was accused by former teammate Floyd Landis of doping throughout his career. However, the seven time Tour De France champion lashed out at Floyd Landis on Saturday calling all his allegations ‘baseless.’ In statement that was released by Lance Armstrong, he questioned the credibility of Floyd Landis and refuted all allegations made against him.
