London, Apr.2 (ANI): Wayne Rooney’s younger brother John, who currently plays as a midfielder for the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer in America, has said that he is not bothered by comparisons with his famous brother and only aims to prove himself.
“It’s just down to me to go out there and impress my coach and the fans and work hard with my team-mates. I’m out here to stand on my own two feet so I’m just looking forward to building on my own career out here,” Sky News quoted John as saying.
Bulls captain Thierry Henry said he was impressed by the way John strike the ball.
“He can strike the ball well, I was impressed with the way he strikes the ball, maybe he learned from Wayne,” he said.
“I think he’s going to be a great asset for us,” he added.
However, the Bull’s coach Hans Becke is reserving his judgement on John for now saying that he (John) is a young player who is doing well and working hard but needs time, probably half a season to prove himself.
John’s move to the United States came after three seasons at League Two’s Macclesfield Town and he aims to develop his game with the help of top quality players like Henry and Rafael Marquez, who is also in the Red Bulls team.
John has made it to the Bulls team but is yet to play for his new teams, who have recorded a win and a draw so far, this season.
The team will face the Houston Dynamo, in the 25000 seat Red Bull Arena, on Saturday. (ANI)
