Rooney stays put with ManU as Coleen fears backlash
October 23rd, 2010 - 4:34 pm ICT by ANILondon, Oct 23 (ANI): British footballer Wayne Rooney has decided to stay with Manchester United after his wife Coleen told him of her fears of a hate campaign should he move to local rivals City.
Rooney, 24, made the decision hours after more than 40 hooligans dressed in hoodies and balaclavas gathered outside their 4.5million pounds mansion carrying a banner saying: “Sign for City and you’re dead.”
“She was beside herself with worry about the backlash,” the Daily Star quoted a source as saying.
“Wayne seemed to have unleashed some uncontrollable forces. If he had moved to City, she and Kai would have had to live in a fortress with 24/7 security,” the source stated.
Coleen, 24, and her mum Colette McLoughlin, 48, feared the family would need round-the-clock security if the striker made the transfer to Eastlands.
And former England boss Graham Taylor, 66, had already warned Rooney that he would need protection “for the rest of his life” if he joined the Sky Blues. (ANI)
