Rooney says both he and Man U must ‘fire to harbour Premier League title hopes

London, Oct 2(ANI): Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has admitted that he and his club must “play better” to have any chance of winning this season’s Premier League.
Rooney has not scored a field goal since last season’s Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich on March 30, while United trail champions Chelsea by three points, having dropped six points so far in three drawn away games.
“I have not got off to the best of starts goalscoring-wise and, hopefully, that can pick up and I will get back to finding the net more often. As a team, we are playing well, but we can play better,” The Sun quoted Rooney, as saying.
“Personally, I know I can play better and I’m just hoping I can get a consistent run of games in the team. If I do that, I’m sure my form will be back to its best. It could be better.”
“I never did a full pre-season and have only played four or five games this season, but with the more games you play, the better your form will go. So, I am hoping to get a good run of games and I’m pretty confident my form will be back to where it should be,” he added.
The 24-year-old further said that United is still in a good position, and can make a comeback to take the league lead.
“Obviously, we have dropped points in away games, but we are still only three points off the top of the Premier League. Hopefully, can go on a run and get back on top of the league,” Rooney said.
“With Chelsea winning it last year, it makes you hungry to win it back. That is my aim,” he added. (ANI)
