Rooney, Ronald celebrate as they escape bansDecember 16th, 2008 - 5:57 pm ICT by ANI
London, dec.16 (ANI): Manchester United stars Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo are in celebration mode after they escaped bans.
According to The Sun, Roo was cleared of any wrongdoing by UEFA over his stamp on Aalborg midfielder Kasper Risgard in the Champions League last Wednesday, while FA and ref Mike Dean said Ronaldos kick at Spurs Michael Dawson on Saturday was also not worthy of disciplinary action.
The decisions are a huge relief for coach Alex Ferguson, who was furious about the furore over Rooneys stamp.
Fergie blamed the media for highlighting it and feared a three-game ban for his fiery striker, 23.
Risgard had stud marks on his chest and both he and caretaker boss Allan Kuhn complained about the incident.
Ronaldo, 23, also went unpunished at White Hart Lane. An FA spokesman said: We contacted the referee, who confirmed he didnt see the incident and, having reviewed footage, he confirmed he would not have sent the player off for violent conduct had he seen it.
On that basis, no further action will be taken. (ANI)
