Rooney ‘may have been victim of phone-hacking’

London, Apr. 29 (ANI): England and Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has revealed that he may have been a victim of phone hacking. Wayne Rooney revealed on Twitter that he had been visited by detectives investigating the hacking claims, The Telegraph reports.

Rooney, who appears in the news pages almost as much as the sports pages, was contacted last week by Scotland Yard detectives.

They have reopened their inquiry in to claims staff on the News of The World accessed the answer phone messages of celebrities and politicians.

Rooney met with police and was shown documents belonging private investigator Glenn Mulcaire, who was jailed following the original hacking investigation in 2007.

It is understood he confirmed phone numbers in the files had belonged to him and some of his associates during 2005 and 2006.

Rooney is expected to consider suing the newspaper if it is shown that his privacy was breached.

His wife, Coleen, also tweeted: “Newspapers hacking into phones!! Desperate and Disgusting!!!! X”

A Scotland Yard spokesman was unable to confirm that a meeting had taken place but said it was “up to him” what Rooney wrote on the website. (ANI)
