Rooney insists he is a ‘head boy’ now

London, Feb. 25 (ANI): Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, who has never been known for his heading ability on field, insists that he’s become the “head boy” for his club.
And he is hoping to repeat the same skills for England this summer.
“I’ve been working on my heading like I work on a lot of things. I’ve been working on it ever since I’ve been at United with one of the coaches - and particularly over the last couple of years,” The Sun quoted Rooney, as saying.
“It’s paying off now and I’m grateful for that because I’ve put a lot of time in and thankfully it has shown on the pitch. I’ve scored a few now,” he added.
The 24-year-old star nodded in two against AC Milan in the San Siro last week and added two more with his nut as the champions eased past West Ham on Tuesday night.
That took his headed tally to eight from 27 goals this season and he is proving to be head and shoulders above any other striker in England.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United last July saw Rooney change from provider to finisher this term.
“I’m playing more central now so I’m in the box when the balls come in, rather than out wide crossing them, so that definitely helps,” he said.
“It’s obviously down to the delivery. If the right ball gets in there you’ve a chance of scoring and Antonio Valencia puts them right on my head,” he added.
Rooney’s form is so good that England fans are starting to worry he will dry up when the World Cup starts in June.
But he tried to allay their fears by saying: “As long as I can keep doing well and keep playing, I’m sure I’ll be OK. I’m just enjoying playing and scoring goals. Hopefully it continues. I’ve never really set targets but I just want to carry on scoring.” (ANI)
