Rooney in FA probe over foul-mouthed rant at Upton Park
April 3rd, 2011 - 6:46 pm ICT by ANILondon, Apr 3(ANI): Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney could face an Football Association punishment over his foul-mouthed blast into a TV camera during the club’s Premier League win against West Ham United.
After completing a hat-trick to give United the lead after going 2-0 down at Upton Park, Rooney located a camera and released a foul-mouthed rant, which was heard by those watching the game on TV.
The event had prompted Sky Sports commentators to immediately issue an apology to its viewers.
“We will look at it. We obviously don’t condone foul and abusive language,” the Sun quoted an FA spokesperson, as saying.
Meanwhile, a United statement said that Rooney has apologized and put his outburst down to emotion.
“I want to apologize for any offence that may have been caused by my goal celebration, especially any parents or children that were watching,” Rooney said in the statement.
“Emotions were running high and on reflection my heat-of-the-moment reaction was inappropriate. It was not aimed at anyone in particular,” he added. (ANI)
