October 25, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Reports suggest that Wayne Rooney will not be celebrating his 25th Birthday with much fanfare after all. The soccer superstar secretly jetted off to Dubai to celebrate his birthday with his wife Coleen. The 90,000 pound Birthday bash has been called off as the couple want to have some alone time with one another.

Rooney will enjoy a five-day break in the lap of luxury at one of the finest hotels in Dubai with his wife. Maybe Rooney really wants to stay away from the media glare for some time and get his priorities straightened out.

Wayne Rooney has been in the reports for all the wrong reasons recently. First he was on the verge of divorce because of a highly publicized fling with a hooker. Last week Wayne was at the verge of ditching his long time club Manchester United. Wayne Rooney went on record to say that the club no longer matched his ambitions and criticized the overall quality of his team mates. Rooney’s comments left the fans seething with rage as he wanted to sign on with rival club Manchester City.

The Manchester United Management quickly responded by doubling Rooney’s contract fees to 200,000 pounds per week. The contract also required Rooney to publicly apologize to his team mates and fans for his outrageous comments.

The couple has just returned from their second honeymoon in Prague and now they are off to Dubai for a relaxing tour. Coleen, 24 rang up each of the 100 guests they had invited for the party to cancel.

Right now Rooney is injured so he sought permission from Sir Alex (Manchester United manager) to go on the trip. The couple has left their one-year old son with Rooney’s parents. The five day trip is supposed to cost over 10,000 pounds.
