Arsenal London, Mar 14 (ANI): Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is under pressure to stay at the club for one more season.

Van der Sar, 40, has announced that he is retiring in the summer to spend more time with his family following his wife’s recent health scare.

But after his stunning display in the FA Cup win over Arsenal everyone at United is desperate for him to have a rethink.

Wayne Rooney said: “We’re grateful for the win and Edwin made some fantastic saves to contribute to that. The players are trying to persuade him to stay on.”

“I was speaking to him in the shower. It’s his decision, so we’ve got to respect that. But he’s such a great keeper and despite his age, for me, he’s still the best in the world,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.

Van der Sar’s mind appears to be made up, as his wife Annemarie has recovered from the stroke she suffered in December 2009 and now he wants to devote his time to her and his two children.

“I don’t hate the idea of retirement I am looking forward to it. You are at your peak and I think it will be nice to finish at my peak. I’ll miss football and the buzz, it has been 20 years. But I have some nice things, a lovely wife and great kids,” he said. (ANI)
