Rooney asks Man U teammate Scholes to rejoin England squad
August 26th, 2010 - 4:55 pm ICT by ANILondon, Aug 26 (ANI): Manchester United ace striker Wayne Rooney has asked teammate Paul Scholes to rejoin the England squad.
Scholes (35) quit the international football six years ago after winning 65 caps.
Rooney said: “I’d like to see him playing. He’s fantastic, one of the best players in the country.”
“But it’s his decision and Fabio Capello’s whether he wants to try to pick him. It’s down to them,” the Sun quoted Rooney, as saying.
This summer Scholes rejected Capello’s request to play in the World Cup and later he admitted that he regrets not going to South Africa.
Scholes sensational form in United’s two Premier League games so far has prompted renewed calls for the midfielder to join the Euro 2012 challenge.
The FA in order to avoid further embarrassment to Capello said that Scholes must make the first move if he wants to play again. (ANI)
