Alex Ferguson London, Apr.3 (ANI): Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has apologized after swearing down a television camera after scoring his third goal against West Ham United.

United beat West Ham 4-2. Rooney’s hat- trick goals inspired an impressive comeback for the team at West Ham.

After delivering his third goal, Rooney was picked up shouting offences by the pitch-side camera, which caused considerable embarrassment to the broadcasters, who apologised to viewers immediately.

“I want to apologise for any offence that may have been caused, especially any parents or children watching. Emotions were running high and on reflection my heat-of-the-moment reaction was inappropriate. It was not aimed at anyone in particular,” The Telegraph quoted him as saying.

The striker scored the first goal with a free kick, finished crisply for the second and converted a penalty for his third goal and Javier Hernandez, who was on as a substitute, hit the fourth goal.

United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said the team had played like champions.

“We played like champions, we didn’t lose faith in ability and that was important. It is not an easy place to come here, with them fighting relegation and at 2-0 down we were under the cosh. It was a real championship performance,” he said.

A Football Association spokesman has said that the incident will be looked it and that Rooney could be charged for bringing the game into disrepute, although that is unlikely.

It is not the first-time that Rooney has got in trouble with pitch-side cameras. After England’s 0-0 draw with Algeria in last year’s World Cup, he directed a trail of offences into a camera at fans who were booing the team off the pitch. (ANI)
