Arsenal London, Apr 28 (ANI): Ace striker Wayne Rooney has admitted he was wrong to try to leave Manchester United six months ago after publicly questioning the strength and ambition of the club.

United is in the race to clinch a Premier League and Champions League double.

Rooney said: “When I look at it now, how wrong was I! Obviously, I understand I made a mistake. I admitted that and I apologised for that and I have wanted to try and prove myself again to the Manchester United fans. I feel I am doing that now.”

“It was a long time ago now and, hopefully, now I am helping this team be successful. “It would be a great end to the season with a Champions League final and winning the League. I am 100 per cent committed to this club,” The Sun quoted him, as saying

Rooney fired home his 15th goal of the season in Tuesday’s 2-0 Champions League triumph away to Schalke 04 to reinforce the message: I’m back.

“I’m very grateful to the fans for supporting me through it and I’m delighted with my form again. I hope I am proving myself through my performances,” he said.

United now face Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday in the Premier League knowing that victory there followed by a home win against Chelsea the following weekend will give them a record 19th title. (ANI)
