Ronaldo reveals desire to become president of CBF
March 19th, 2012 - 8:21 pm ICT by IANSRio de Janeiro, March 19 (IANS) Retired soccer star Ronaldo revealed his aspirations of entering the world of politics and becoming the next president of the Brazilian Confederation of Soccer (CBF).
With the sudden and unexpected resignation of Ricardo Teixeira from the presidency of the CBF, Jose Maria Marin has stepped in. Marin recently travelled to represent the CBF in other South American countries, making Ronaldo the acting president in Brazil.
Ronaldo had an important role during a recent meeting between FIFA president Joseph Blatter and Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff. The event seems to have inspired Ronaldo to pursue a life in politics, Xinhua reported.
Ronaldo currently serves as the president of Brazil’s Local Organizing Committee for the 2014 World Cup. The experience gained while helping Brazil prepare for the world’s largest soccer event, something he promised to be “the best-ever”, will serve as a platform for his forecasted candidacy to become president of the CBF.
However, Ronaldo claims that he will only consider assuming the post in 2015, or sometime after the 2014 World Cup.
