Ronaldo considers early retirement
August 19th, 2010 - 5:36 pm ICT by IANSSao Paulo, Aug 19 (DPA) Brazilian striker Ronaldo has said that he would consider ending his career in December and not - as originally planned - next year.
After a lengthy injury lay-off, the two-time world champion who holds the record for the most number of goals scored in the World Cup with 15, said that it was not an easy decision to make.
“I have spent my whole life in football. But I will continue to give it my all to make sure that I can at least make it until the end of the year,” he told Globo TV, Wednesday. “Thereafter I will decide.”
Ronaldo, who at the beginning of the year, extended his career with Corinthians until 2011 said that he could not say when he would retire. “But one day I will play a game and then simply say that was it.”
He has not played since May 9, but has started training again and is hoping to play on Aug 29, although he is over-weight. “I need to lose weight, find my rhythm and then hope that I feel fine.”
