The Hague (Netherlands), Jan 17 (IANS) Coach Ronald Koeman extended his contract at Dutch football side Feyenoord until 2013, the Rotterdam based club announced Tuesday.

During a training camp in southern Spain, the former Dutch international came to an agreement with the club, penning a one-year contract extension. Last summer he had signed for one year as successor to Mario Been, who left the club after a fall out with the players, Xinhua reported.

Under the guidance of Koeman, Feyenoord are in fifth place, halfway through the Eredivisie season and are seven points off league leaders AZ Alkmaar. Last season Been led the club to a tenth place finish.

“I am really enjoying myself at Feyenoord and am glad we have found agreement. We see a lot of opportunities to grow with this talented group.” Koeman said.

Feyenoord have already signed two new players for the next season. The club reached an agreement with John Goossens of NEC Nijmegen Monday and earlier the club signed Ruud Vormer of Roda JC Kerkrade.

KOeman, a former Netherlands international, ended his playing career with Feyenoord in 1997.
