Los Angeles, June 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Ron Artest has petitioned the judiciary in the United States to have his name changed to Metta World Peace. Ron is regarded as one of the most controversial basketball players in history.

At the beginning of the NBA season, the LA Lakers coach Phil Jackson had to punish Ron after he reported feigned being tired so that other teammates could get the chance to also play. He has also shown a lot of benevolence and at a time he sold his championship ring and gave the money to an inner-city school.

Ron filed his petition at a court in Los Angeles. The new name of Ron has its root in the Buddhist religion. The name in the Buddhist religion means happiness and peace. The request is expected to be granted, a website has reported.

TMZ said the judge who will consider the petition is likely to grant the request of Ron. Getting the request granted will only be the first step because the name will have to be accepted by the NBA who will finally be required to rule on whether the word ‘Peace’ should be allowed to be at the back of Ron’s jersey.
