artest2According to sources, Ron Artest, the American professional basketball player has reportedly stated that he will be leaving Houston Rockets in favor of Los Angeles Lakers.

The basket ball maestro who had nearly derailed Lakers’ championship drive has shown interest in joining the club. Reports say that the Lakers agreed to provide Artest a whopping 33 million dollar contract for five years with an opt-out after the fourth year. However both the parties are on talks to adjust the terms before the deal is signed. The negotiation might include a possibility of a shorter contract.

“I am very excited to be finally going to L.A.,” Artest stated in a statement released by his agent David Bauman. “For years now, Lakers have expressed interest in having me play for them, but we could never get the stars to align. I’m finally a Laker and I can’t wait to get on to the court with Kobe, Pau and the rest of the team, and play for Phil. I am very very excited to be a Laker. I look forward to helping the Lakers to defend their championship,” quips Artest.

Artest, who is considered as a potential scorer and a fearsome defender is probably having his best season. The Rockets, who signed Artest last summer, believed that the player would thrive as the “third star” of the team. Now, as he will be drafted to L.A. Lakers, he will have the opportunity to play in an All Star team.

Artest will also have the privilege to work with the Hall Of Fame coach, Phil Jackson. All eyes are on Artest who is set to deliver for the Lakers.
