Romero & Point Given Elected To Racing’s Hall Of Fame

May 30, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Romaro and Point given together with Best Pal and Azeri were elected to the Racing’s Hall of Fame. They were chosen for the contemporary category were elected on the basis of 182 votes on Friday. The Hall of Fame is expected to announce its decision on Wednesday when it completes inducting 2010 new additions.

John Romaro has won over 4000 races in his career which spans 26 years. He is also known for winning the Breeder’s Cup races on both his mounts Go for Wand and Personal Ensign. His mounts had also earned almost $75 million from purses. He was, in fact, the first to wire five straight races and capture six all in one day.

Point Given was acclaimed as the horse of the year as well as the Champion 3 year old in the year 2001. He finished fifth in the Kentucky Derby that year but that did not deter him from winning four straight races with a $ 1 million purses. He was also hailed for winning the last legs of Triple Crown, Belmont and the Preakness. He was retired due to an injury soon after.

The candidates received an overwhelming majority of votes which secured their places on the hall of fame. The actual celebration of the event is slated to take place in Saratoga Springs on the 13th of August.
