Rolland Garros Set For Wimbledon Finals 2009

rogerThe Wimbledon has been the focus of sports aficionado all over the last week as the major contenders were to face each other at the important semi- finals. In the men’s single semi-finals all time favorite Roger Federer defeated Germany’s Tonny Haas to secure the position to play in the Wimbledon Finals. The five time champion was dominant in the match from the beginning ousting his 31 year old German opponent by 7-6, 7-5, 6-3 on Friday. Federer became the first tennis player to secure a place in the Wimbledon finals in seven successive years.

In the other semi-final, much to the disappointment of many fans, American Andy Roddick, who won the US Open Champion in 2003 defeated Andy Murray who if won would have become the first British to play in the Wimbledon finals since 1938. Roddick won the match over Murray by 6-4, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6.

Thursday was also the deciding day for the men’s doubles championship. Leander Paes and Cara Black met their 12th seeded opponents Stephen Huss and Virginia Ruano Pascual where the former pair won the match by 6-4, 6-4. Paes had been the winner of the French Open men’s doubles last month and has also won two Wimbledon Mixed doubles championship. In the other mixed doubles semi-final match, the Bahaman-German pair M.Knowles and Anna-Lena Groenefeld defeated the British-American pair Jamie Murray and Liezel Huber.

The women’s singles final had been decided earlier and this time again the center court will be witnessing another exciting match between the William sisters who will be playing against each other in the Wimbledon finals for the fourth time.
