Rohit Rajpal appointed DLTA director

Davis Cup New Delhi, May 25 (IANS) The Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) Executive Committee Wednesday appointed former Davis Cupper and present Fed Cup captain Rohit Rajpal as its director.

The executive committee also appointed a Sports Committee to be chaired by Rajpal and having former Davis Cupper members Vishal Uppal, former Fed Cup player Shalini Thakur and executive director (development) of All India Tennis Association (AITA) and joint director of DLTA Ranbir Chauhan. Manpreet Kandhari will be the secretary to the committee.

Rajpal said DLTA will also conduct an ATP Challenger event in 2011-12 and later upgrade the event to a full-fledged Tour event.

He said his endeavour would be to make the upgraded DLTA Complex into a world class tennis centre which will include a residential tennis academy. The academy will also welcome children from Asian countries. The DLTA will also look to get recognition from the ATF and the ITF.

Uppal said the professional team will ensure that best coaching is given to the children at DLTA with emphasis on physical training and mental toughness.
