Roger accused of assaulting St. Vil

Aug 5 (IBNS) Roger Mayweather, 48, the uncle and trainer of champion boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., has been detained on charges of attacking Melissa St. Vil in her apartment. He now faces coercion and battery charges.

Female boxer St Vil, who was trained by Mayweather until she terminated their arrangement three months prior, was living with a roommate who rented the apartment from Mayweather.

According to police, Mayweather was upset that St. Vil was living in the apartment.

St. Vil reported to police that Mayweather arrived at the apartment and allegedly grabbed her and punched her several times in the ribs. A Las Vegas report also said officers responding to a 911 encountered Mayweather with his arms wrapped around a struggling St. Vil.

Mayweather “wrapped his hands around her throat, causing her to nearly pass out.”

Melissa St. Vil was a lightweight boxer with three fights to her credit. Nearly 26 years old and known as Little Miss Tyson, she is probably a tough chick. Without knowing much of the background leading up to the incident, could her injuries have been avoided? Are fighters more likely to put themselves into high risk situations relying on their fighting ability?

Some situations are unfortunate and unavoidable. St. Vil dialed 911 and attempted to defend herself by striking her attacker in the head with a nearby lamp, thanks to her presence of mind.
