robJan 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It was second time lucky for former Major Baseball League player Roberto Alomar who was inducted into the Hall of Fame on Wednesday, becoming the third Puerto Rican to have been bestowed with the honor. The highly-acclaimed former baseball star received 90 per cent of the votes to attain the much-coveted recognition after 581 voters of the Baseball Writers Association of America showcased their support to the ex-Baltimore Orioles player. Last year, when Roberto Alomar was selected for the first time, the honor remained elusive for him as he lacked eight votes to be eligible for induction into Hall of Fame.

While reacting to the prestigious Hall of fame honor that has been conferred on him, the 42-year-old former Toronto Blue Rays player said that he feels really honored to have won the recognition. While Roberto Alomar turned out to be the frontrunner with 90 per cent votes for the Hall of Fame induction, he was followed by pitcher Bert Blyleven who was able to achieve 79.7 per cent of the votes. Both the noted players would be inducted in a special ceremony that is scheduled to take place on July 24 later this year.

Despite failing to gather the requisite 75 per cent of votes for induction during his first attempt last year, this time things went in favor of Roberto Alomar who is often regarded as the best second baseman in the history of the game. He became the third person from his country to become the proud recipient of baseball’s highest award after Roberto Clemente and Orlando Cepeda.
