Amsterdam, June 11 (DPA) Dutch winger Arjen Robben was expected to fly to South Africa for the World Cup after a final medical check-up on his hamstring.
Robben, 26, has completed treatment with physiotherapist Dick van Toorn who has declared him fit to play, six days after the Bayern Munich star limped out of a tune-up match with a hamstring injury which left his World Cup participation in serious doubt.
“It was long days but it’s going really well. We have made great progress,” Friday’s edition of De Telegraaf daily quoted Robben as saying.
His physiotherapist Dick van Toorn agreed: “The injury is healed … The results are looking good. Arjen’s treatment worked well. I must say that most of it comes from his professional attitude.”
Robben managed sprints without pain Wednesday and Thursday. Van Toorn said he would not need any further healing programme at the Dutch team camp in South Africa, but that he will need to continue some therapeutical exercises.
Van Toorn told Germany’s tz daily that Robben is fit to play in the Dutch World Cup opener Monday against Denmark, but coach Bert van Marwijk may use a conservative approach and not field him.
The other Dutch group E games are on June 19 against Japan and June 24 against Cameroon.
“I hope to play again as soon as possible. When I will play again? I am not a fortune teller,” he told Dutch NOS radio.
