Roach promises ‘chin music’ to test Ponting’s chink in armour
January 30th, 2010 - 2:30 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Melbourne, Jan 30 (ANI): West Indies fast bowler Kemar Roach, whose delivery during the second Test in Adelaide exposed a flaw in the way Ricky Ponting handles short-pitched bowling, wants to use the one-day series against Australia to inflict more pressure on the Australian captain.
The one-day clash with Pakistan on Australia Day marked the fifth time this summer that Ponting fell to a short ball.
The West Indies tour will begin with a warm-up match against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra on Thursday. The five-match one-day series against Australia starts next Sunday at the MCG, and will be followed by two Twenty20 internationals.
Roach agreed with his captain Chris Gayle’s assertion that he had found a weakness in Ponting’s batting.
“As you can see he has been getting in a lot of trouble lately. I will be trying my best to make sure he keeps getting in trouble,” The Age quoted Roach, as saying.
He believes the pressure of having to face the highly regarded Australians on their home turf had a positive effect on his performances.
“There were a couple of nerves. It is a great feeling when you are on the field and competing with the greats. I hope to become a great also and will keep working hard at my game to achieve that.
He (Ponting) is arguably the best batsman in the world right now and to cause him a few problems was a good feeling. Hopefully I can keep that up,” Roach said.
Roach’s success against Ponting was reflected in his claiming his wicket in three of his five innings against the West Indies. (ANI)
