Perth, Jan 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting is set to undergo finger surgery.

The surgery will be held on Tuesday and it is hoped that it will correct his fractured finger which had ruled him out of the final Ashes Test. That means he will also miss the clash with England during the Commonwealth Bank ODI series. He will however be ready to play in the Cricket World Cup which will come off from the 19th day of February.

When he first injured his finger during the Ashes, Ponting tried to play through the pain but eventually it became evident that he has to either accept treatment early or risk losing his finger.

The physio therapist of the Australian Cricket team, Alex Kountouris revealed that, “Ricky had further X-rays today on his fractured finger which have shown that the bone fragment has further displaced and will not heal without surgery. As such Ricky will have surgery tomorrow.”

Ponting is very vital for the Australian cricket team. He is seen as the inspirational force behind the Australian cricket team and during his time out of the game, he will be greatly missed.
