HATTIESBURG, MISSISSIPPI (BNO NEWS) — Quarterback Brett Favre on Wednesday said that if he is healthy, he plans on playing this upcoming season in the NFL.
The Minnesota Star Tribune reported that Favre had not yet decided to retire or to return for another season with the Minnesota Vikings, but if healthy, he will play.
Just one day after reports said that the 40-year-old quarterback was not planning on playing again, the Brett Favre off-season drama has begun for the third straight time.
In the past two off-seasons, Favre has retired and played for the New York Jets and the Vikings, respectively. Earlier reports said that Favre’s decision was based on his contract, but even though he might be making as much as $20 million this season, he says money is not influencing his decision.
Favre underwent ankle surgery in late May, and Vikings offensive coordinator, as well as Favre’s agent, Bus Cook, have both stated that if the future Hall-of-Famer recovers favorably, he will be playing next season. He is scheduled to visit is surgeon next week to have further medical evaluation.
Favre turns 41 in October, but a 20th season is not far fetched since he had one of his best seasons in 2009. He led the Vikings to a NFC title with a 12-4 record, throwing for 4,202 yards, 33 touchdowns, and a career-low 7 interceptions.
