Red Bull’s Vettel wins Malaysian Grand Prix
April 4th, 2010 - 5:33 pm ICT by ANISepang (Malaysia), Apr 4(ANI): Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel won his first Formula One race of the season, as he overcame his car’s reliability issues in the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang on Sunday.
Vettel, whose car cost him potential wins in Bahrain and Australia, overtook team-mate and pole-setter Mark Webber on the first lap after a flying start and held on to triumph.
“It was a very good result for us. After two races where we didn’t finish where we did not want to, it was very crucial not to panic. With Mark in second place, it is a big plus for the team. I’m very, very happy,” The Times quoted Vettel, as saying.
Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg took third and claimed the other podium spot, but it was a disastrous race for his team-mate Michael Schumacher, who retired after 10 laps whilst in sixth position with suspension problems.
Renault’s Robert Kubica continued his impressive start to the season to finish fourth, followed by Force India’s Adrian Sutil, who successfully held off McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton to secure fifth.
Ferrari’s Felipe Massa finished seventh, while reigning champion Jenson Button, who won last week’s Australian Grand Prix, finished eighth in his McLaren.
The other Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso retired after having an engine failure on the penultimate lap.
Massa is at the top of the championship standings after three races with 39 points, in front of Alonso and Vettel, who have 37. (ANI)
