Received death threats after India whitewash: Swann
October 28th, 2011 - 2:59 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Oct 28 (IANS) England spinner Graeme Swann has revealed that he received death threats on Twitter following the team’s 0-5 ODI whitewash in India.
Swann was the target of abuse and vitriol on his Twitter feed - but says he could almost understand the anger.
“Although I don’t condone death threats on Twitter, I could almost understand it when I had a couple of hundred people threatening all manner of retribution after Tuesday’s match,” The Sun quoted Swann as saying.
England lost the final ODI at Eden Gardens by 95 runs, losing 10 wickets for just 47 runs.
“Not everyone in cyberworld has a perspective - after all, it is only a game of cricket. But you can almost understand why people get wound up.
“It can’t be easy to watch us, not just losing but losing the way we did,” said Swann who will lead England in Saturday’s one-off Twenty20 international.
Swann said he has blocked most of those who made the threats.
