Rashid Khan tied 10th at Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters
July 22nd, 2011 - 7:38 pm ICT by IANSShah Alam (Malaysia), July 22 (IANS) Indian golfer Rashid Khan, who turned a professional after the Asian Games last year, scored three-under 69 and rose to tied 10th place in the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters golf here Friday.
Khan was the best Indian, while Jyoti Randhawa, former Asian tour No. 1, slipped from sixth to 16th following a disappointing 72 and was six-under for three rounds.
Rashid, a member of the silver medal winning Indian team as an amateur at last November’s Asian Games, shot three-under 69 to move to seven-under in tied 10th place.
Thailand’s Panuphol Pittayarat putted great to take a two-shot lead with one round to go. The 18-year-old Panuphol, shot five-under-par 67 to get to 13-under 203. He was followed by Antonio Lascuna of the Philippines (66).
Rashid Khan said: “I’m playing on a sponsor’s invite. Whenever I have a chance I’ve got to try to make full use of the playing opportunities on the Asian Tour. The bogey on last hole was disappointing. I bogeyed both par fives.”
Three Indians - Gaurav Ghei (71), Sujjan Singh (74) and Himmat Rai (72) - were tied 28th while Anirban Lahiri (74) was tied 50th and Gaganjeet Bhullar(74) was tied 63rd.
Randhawa said: “Putting let me down. The greens are too fast. I can’t get the speed. Sometimes it was too hard, sometimes it was too soft. It was a lack of touch. I’ve not played for a month, so you just lose your feel around the greens.”
